Reading the Suttas and the 2021 Report from the UNs' International Panel on Climate Change

This month the United Nations’ International Panel on Climate Change released a report on the grim changes already begun and extending into the foreseeable future to the living systems of our planet as a result of climate change. This talk is the first in a series looking at the question, ‘How do the teachings of the Buddha help us to live in a time such as this?’ It highlights the discourse ‘The Vipers’ from The Linked Discourses of the Buddha and explores some ways that it, along with the example of the Freedom Riders of the Civil Rights Movement, speak to us on how to respond in the face of suffering on such a scale.
